A. Your SEO Marketing Strategy should target the market you are seeking.
Most people do not take the time to find out where their market is.  They are sometimes part of their market, or they “Know” the market.  But WHERE is their market…..actually?  “I use live bait and most everyone I know does too!”   or  “I tie my own fishing flies and so does everyone I know!”

Do you see a pattern here?   Everyone sees things from their own perspective and their own micro-micro-niche.   This is not always where the money is.  So do some research and ignore the people who advise you to work from your own perspective.  What you like may be the coolest market there is.  But maybe instead of building a website for that market, you can start a forum where all 15 of you can hang out and chat.

Your SEO marketing strategy, on the other hand should focus on the much larger part of the market than your own clan can support.   Look for some decent numbers.  Use a strategy that the search engines appreciate, stick with popular markets. The search engines do not change for people who post a lot of content that the population is searching for.  Usually their ranking is unaffected. It is only the “thin” websites that suffer because they have no buffer to work with.  Their marketing strategy is to get by with as little content as possible.  Whoops… That is for topic C.

B. Your SEO Marketing Strategy should include the most competitive words in your market.  That does not mean that are the only words you would like to rank for, but I will let you in on a secret.   There are a ton of long tail searches that are missed because people try to keep the content to a minimum. True, the number of exact searches may be low, but I hope you catch my drift.   You can rank at the #1 spot for a lot of the most popular keywords by doing a lot of writing on the subject that others refuse to do.  Look at this result:  Results of about 713 for  Where can I find an ipod?  Can you beat out 700 sites for this keyword phrase?  I think so.

C. Your SEO Marketing Strategy should be to create as much content on your subject as possible. Better yet, invite input from visitors.  How many Videos has YouTube created?   ZERO as far as I can tell.  Every bit of the site is user added content.   Do users have the same opinions as you on your subject?  Maybe not.  Swallow hard and suck it up.

Your mission is to make the visitor happy in your own style. But stay out of the way if they want to change the topic. Add lot of your own input, but let visitors have a hand in your success too.  Both methods of content creation result in links coming it.  Incoming links make up about 2/3  of your overall SEO Marketing Strategy success.
