Which are the BIG internet marketing optimization factors? It’s “fun” to focus on some new discovery because often a small tweak can cause your site to rank better overnight. It turns out that a lot of little things add up to a good showing in the search engine results and bring in traffic. Of the 100 or so factors, I’ll start by covering 5 here:

Q. Does having the keyword in the URL affect ranking?
A. Yes; It *increases* search results rankings.
Data: +85
279 265 240 239 228 230 205 222

When we look at 3000 different keyword searches, 85% of the time we will find that having the keyword in the URL results in a better SERP (Search Engine Results Pages) result.

Q. Does having a “.com” domain affect ranking?
A. Yes; It *increases ranking.
Data: +67
250 257 247 248 247 236 245 244

This is not to say that Google cares about if the url is a “dot com” or not. More likely is that “dot com” websites have been around longer and get more traffic, two factors known to affect good rankings.

Q. Does having a “.html” URL affect ranking?
A. Yes; It DECREASES ranking.

A. Yes; It *increases* ranking.

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

Q. Does having a URL 11-20 characters affect ranking?
A. Yes; It *increases* ranking.
Data: +42 48 31 34 20 24 40 23 21

Q. Does having a URL 41-50 characters affect ranking?
A. Yes; It DECREASES ranking.
Data: -82 20 25 31 32 35 31 37 41

I’ll let you figure out what the reasons may be.
